Bulk Beetroot Powder Supplier — Freeze-Dried Whole-Root (Beet Root Powder, Beta vulgaris) & Spray-Dried Juice, USDA & EU Organic Available, B2B Wholesale
Valeherb supplies beetroot powder (also called beet root powder or beetroot juice powder, Beta vulgaris) in bulk wholesale, made from 100% real red beetroot — the deep-red root vegetable valued as a natural colour and a whole-vegetable food ingredient. It is not a standardized betanin or nitrate extract, not beetroot capsules, and not sugar beet. Three grades are available: a freeze-dried whole-root powder (Conventional or Organic) and a spray-dried juice powder with maltodextrin.
Our Two Grades
The drying method is the main decision. It changes the colour, how much betalain and naturally occurring nitrate survive, the texture, how it dissolves, and the label. Both grades start from real red beetroot. Only the freeze-dried grade is available organic.
| Freeze-Dried Whole-Root Powder | Spray-Dried Juice Powder | |
|---|---|---|
| Made from | Whole red beetroot | Beetroot juice |
| Carrier | None — 100% beetroot | Contains maltodextrin carrier |
| Mesh options | Fine (powder) or coarse | Fine, free-flowing |
| Colour & flavour | Deepest red and fullest earthy-sweet flavour | Bright red; clean, dissolves for drinks |
| Betalains & nitrate | Highest retention — closest to fresh root on a dry-matter basis | Held with the carrier; lower than freeze-dried |
| Solubility | Disperses in water; some natural fibre | Dissolves clear and fast; made for drinks |
| Organic | USDA NOP & EU Organic available | Conventional only |
| Single-ingredient label | Yes — 100% beetroot | No — maltodextrin is declared |
Beetroot Powder, Juice Powder, Extract, Capsules: Which One?
“Beetroot powder” covers a few different products, so this is worth getting right before you order.
- Beetroot / beet root powder (Beta vulgaris). The dried, milled whole root. This is what we sell. “Beetroot powder,” “beet root powder,” “red beet powder,” and “dried / dehydrated beetroot powder” all mean this.
- Beetroot juice powder — spray-dried beet juice on a maltodextrin carrier; clear-dissolving for drinks. We make this as our spray-dried grade.
- Beetroot extract / concentrate powder is different. A betalain- or nitrate-concentrate, more processed than a whole-root powder. Ours is the whole vegetable, not a standardized extract.
- Beetroot capsules / pills are a finished dose form, not a bulk ingredient. We supply the powder for you to formulate.
- Sugar beet and golden beet are different. Sugar beet (white) is grown for sugar; golden beet is yellow (betaxanthin). We supply red beetroot.
Colour, Betalains & Drying
Beetroot’s colour is betalain — chiefly betanin (“beetroot red”), a betalain pigment and not an anthocyanin — which makes beetroot one of the most widely used natural red and pink food colours. Betalains are sensitive to heat, light, and oxygen, so processing matters: freeze-drying the whole root at low temperature keeps the most colour, betalain, and naturally occurring nitrate, while the spray-dried juice grade uses a maltodextrin carrier that helps stabilise the pigment as it dries.[2] Betalain and nitrate content vary widely between cultivars and lots,[1] so the powder is described as naturally containing these, not standardised to a fixed level. Both grades hold colour best stored cool, dark, and dry.
Nutritional Composition (Naturally Occurring)
Levels move with cultivar, origin, season, and drying method, so this describes what the root naturally contains rather than guaranteed values.
- Betalains — betanin and other betacyanins (red) plus betaxanthins (yellow); the natural colour, varying widely by cultivar[1]
- Dietary nitrate — naturally present, varying widely with cultivar, soil, and season; not standardized in our powder[1]
- Natural sugars — the source of beetroot’s earthy sweetness
- Fibre, folate, manganese & potassium — naturally present in the whole root
Beetroot also naturally contains oxalates, and its betalains can temporarily tint urine or stool red (beeturia), a harmless effect. We do not standardize the powder to any marker compound.
Applications by Category
- Natural colour: a betalain-rich whole-root or juice powder for clean-label red, pink, and magenta colour, where regulations permit
- Beverages & smoothies: spray-dried juice powder for fast, clear colour and an earthy-sweet note in drinks, smoothies, and mixes
- Bakery & confectionery: natural red / pink colour in red-velvet-style bakes, fillings, and coatings, kept away from high heat
- Dairy & frozen: yogurt, ice cream, and plant-based formats wanting a pink or red colour
- Nutrition & sports blends: a whole-vegetable beet ingredient for nutrition and “beet” blends (formulated, not performance-claimed)
- Supplements & cosmetics: whole-root powder for capsules and blends, and a natural colour for lip and cheek products (confirm INCI)
Sourcing & QC Criteria
| Parameter | What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Form & grade | Whole-root vs juice powder (Beta vulgaris) — not a standardized extract, not sugar beet | Different products with different composition, use, and price |
| Drying & carrier | Freeze-dried (100% root, no carrier) vs spray-dried (maltodextrin declared) | Sets colour, retention, solubility, and label — single-ingredient vs declared carrier |
| Betalain & nitrate | Reported as naturally occurring and tested per lot if a level is required — not standardized | Both vary widely by cultivar and lot; a guaranteed value cannot be assumed |
| Heavy metals | ICP-MS (Pb, As, Cd, Hg) per batch | As a root crop, beetroot can take up metals from soil — important for a low-process powder |
| Organic certification | USDA NOP and/or EU Organic (EU 2018/848) covering the root and the processing facility | Both the source and the processing must be certified for an organic claim |
| Microbiology & pesticides | TPC, yeast & mould, E. coli, Salmonella; multi-residue screen or organic audit | Core food-grade requirements and market entry for EU / US / Japan |
Regulatory Guidance
- United States: beetroot is sold as a food and dietary-supplement ingredient (DSHEA for supplements), and vegetable-juice colour from beetroot is a permitted colour additive. Organic grades require USDA NOP covering the root and the facility; FDA-registered facility (21 CFR Part 111) for supplement supply
- European Union: established food use (not a novel food); beetroot red is approved as the food colour E162; organic grades require EU Organic (EU 2018/848). Note dietary-nitrate intake against EU Acceptable Daily Intake when positioning high-nitrate products.[1] For cosmetics, confirm the Beta vulgaris INCI for the form
- China & sourcing: beetroot is an established food; supplied with full export documentation and organic certification where required
