Bulk Sea Buckthorn Fruit Powder Supplier — Freeze-Dried Whole-Berry (Hippophae rhamnoides) & Spray-Dried Juice, Organic Available
Valeherb supplies sea buckthorn fruit powder (also called sea buckthorn berry powder, Hippophae rhamnoides) in bulk wholesale, made from 100% real sea buckthorn berries — not the oil, not flavouring, and not added colour. Two grades are available: a freeze-dried whole-fruit powder (Organic available) and a spray-dried juice powder with maltodextrin. Grown and processed in China, with a low 1 kg MOQ so you can sample first.
Our Two Grades
The drying method is the main decision. It changes the colour, how much vitamin C and pigment survive, the texture, how it dissolves, and the label. Both grades start from real sea buckthorn berries. Only the freeze-dried grade is available organic.
| Freeze-Dried Whole-Fruit Powder | Spray-Dried Juice Powder | |
|---|---|---|
| Made from | Whole ripe sea buckthorn berries | Sea buckthorn juice |
| Carrier | None — 100% fruit | Contains maltodextrin carrier |
| Mesh options | Fine (powder) or coarse (visible fruit pieces) | Fine, free-flowing |
| Colour & flavour | Deepest orange and fullest tangy flavour | Orange; milder, a bit paler |
| Vitamin C & carotenoids | Highest retention — closest to fresh fruit on a dry-matter basis | Held with the carrier; vitamin C lower than freeze-dried |
| Solubility | Disperses in cold water; some natural fruit fibre | Dissolves clear and fast; made for drinks |
| Organic | USDA NOP & EU Organic available | Conventional only |
| Single-ingredient label | Yes — 100% sea buckthorn | No — maltodextrin is declared |
Powder, Oil, Extract, Seed: Which Sea Buckthorn Product?
“Sea buckthorn” is sold in several very different forms. This is the part people most often get wrong, so here is how they sort out.
- Fruit / berry powder. The dried, milled berry. This is what we sell. “Sea buckthorn fruit powder” and “sea buckthorn berry powder” are the same thing.
- Sea buckthorn oil — not a powder. The pressed fruit or seed oil is a different product, and it’s where most of the omega-7 and skincare interest comes from. If you searched sea buckthorn oil vs powder, that’s the split: we supply the fruit powder, not the oil.
- Whole-fruit powder vs juice powder. Whole-fruit powder is the dried, milled berry; juice powder is the pressed juice dried onto a carrier. We make both.
- Extract powder and seed powder are different products. An extract powder is concentrated, and a seed powder uses the seeds only. We sell whole-fruit and juice powder from the berry.
Drying Method & Nutrient Retention
For a fruit powder, the drying method — not a standardized assay — is what most affects quality, so it is worth specifying on purpose. Sea buckthorn berries are high in moisture, sugar, and natural oils, so the juice is sticky and hard to dry on its own, which is why spray-drying needs a maltodextrin carrier.[2] Freeze-drying skips the carrier and pulls the water out at low temperature; for sea buckthorn it has been shown to give lower moisture, easier milling, and better retention of vitamin C and carotenoids than hot-air drying.[2] The orange comes from carotenoids,[1] which are sensitive to heat, light, and air, so both grades hold their colour and vitamin C best in cool, dark, low-oxygen conditions.
Nutritional Composition (Naturally Occurring)
As a whole-fruit powder, sea buckthorn powder carries the fruit’s natural parts. Levels move with cultivar, ripeness, season, and drying method, so the list below describes what the fruit naturally contains rather than guaranteed standardized values.
- Vitamin C — sea buckthorn is one of the richer fruit sources of vitamin C; best kept in the freeze-dried grade[1]
- Carotenoids — the natural orange pigments (beta-carotene and others) that also work as a colour contribution[1]
- Vitamin E (tocopherols) — naturally present in the whole fruit[1]
- Flavonoids (isorhamnetin, quercetin, kaempferol) — naturally occurring antioxidant compounds of the whole-fruit matrix[1]

Sourcing & QC Criteria
The fruit is grown and processed in China, the world’s largest sea buckthorn producer. Every batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis, and the MOQ is 1 kg, so you can run a sample before committing to volume.
| Parameter | What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Form | Whole-fruit / berry powder — not oil, extract, or seed powder | These are different products with different composition, use, and price |
| Grade & carrier | Freeze-dried (100% fruit, no carrier) vs spray-dried (maltodextrin declared) | Sets colour, retention, solubility, and label — single-ingredient vs declared carrier |
| Drying method | Freeze-dried vs spray-dried — documented | Directly drives vitamin-C and carotenoid retention and final colour |
| Organic certification | USDA NOP and/or EU Organic (EU 2018/848) covering the fruit and the processing facility | Both the source and the processing must be certified for an organic claim |
| Microbiology & heavy metals | TPC, yeast & mould, E. coli, Salmonella; ICP-MS (Pb, As, Cd, Hg) per batch | Core food-grade requirements for a low-process fruit powder |
| Pesticides | Multi-residue screen for conventional grades; organic grades controlled via certification audit | Market-entry requirement for EU / US / Japan |
Regulatory Guidance
- United States: supplied as a food and dietary-supplement ingredient — DSHEA applies for supplements. Organic grades require USDA NOP certification covering the raw fruit and the processing facility. FDA-registered facility (21 CFR Part 111) for supplement supply
- European Union: established food use (sea buckthorn berry is not a novel food); organic grades require EU Organic certification (EU 2018/848). For cosmetic use, the INCI sits under Hippophae rhamnoides (e.g. Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract) — confirm the exact INCI for the form
- China: sea buckthorn (shājí) is a traditional, approved food; supplied from origin with full export documentation and organic certification where required
